FIFA threatens Tunisia to withdraw from the 2022 World Cup

This happened due to comments from Tunisia’s Minister of Youth and Sports Kamel Deguiche which alludes to “the dissolution of several federal offices of various disciplines”.

FIFA also asked the Tunisian Football Association (FTF) for clarification on what it described as attempts by state authorities to interfere in the internal affairs of the Tunisian federation and its threats to dissolve FTF offices.

“In this regard, we would like to remind you that FIFA affiliated associations are legally obliged to conduct their business independently and without undue influence from third parties,” FIFA said in a letter published by radio stations. FM mosaic.

“Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the imposition of sanctions under FIFA law, including the suspension of the association concerned”.

FIFA has insisted that the FTF clarify its position on the minister’s comments by Friday.

A copy of the letter is said to have also been forwarded to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The suspension of the FTF could prevent Tunisian football and national teams from participating in regional or international tournaments, including the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Tunisian sports law researcher Adnen Abid told Saudi media, The national teamthat FIFA’s laws relating to third party interference in national football associations are clear.

Adnen cites Article 19 of the FIFA Statute which deals with the independence of members and establishes the importance of national football associations in the conduct of their business regardless of the interference of third parties.

“Paragraph two of the same chapter underlines the importance of appointing members of the federation democratically, regardless of interference from national authorities,” Abid told The National.

Tunisia entered Group D with Australia, Denmark and France.
