Doha: Alasdair Bell, FIFA Deputy Secretary General, said the FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar can bring sustainable and healthy changes in the field of human rights protection. Alasdair Bell added that the FIFA World Cup played an important role in achieving great progress in the field of human rights and labor rights in Qatar and was able to have a great impact on the legislative sector in Qatar.
Speaking on the issue of sports organization and the social protection of workers at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Bell said that FIFA has done an excellent job in the field of labor rights and human rights protection in Qatar, and this was accepted by the International Labor Organization and the International Congress of Trade Unions. Working conditions in Qatar have reached international standards, particularly at the World Cup venues.
In 2020, around two and a half million workers were able to change jobs as a result of labor sector reforms. He stressed that more than three lakh workers have benefited from the minimum wage law.
