The International Football Federation (FIFA) sided with Zenit in a dispute with Barcelona over the bonuses prescribed when striker Malcolm transferred to the St. Petersburg club, Match TV reports.
The agreement on the transfer of the Brazilian from Barcelona to Zenit in 2019 included a clause according to which the Russian club must pay monetary compensation to the Blaugrana if the Blaugrana become participants in the Champions League in season 2022/23.
Zenit, due to the exclusion of Russian clubs from European competitions, did not participate in the last season of the Champions League, but Barcelona demanded that the blue-white-blues pay bonuses, citing the fact that the St. Petersburg club became the champion of Russia and had to play in Champions League.
Having failed to convince Zenit, the Catalans filed a complaint with FIFA. She sided with the Russian club and rejected the Blue Garnets’ complaint. Barcelona then filed a claim with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Malcolm moved from Zenit to Saudi Al-Hilal in the last summer transfer window.
