FIFA sanction President of the Spanish Football Federation Luis Rubiales. This punishment follows Rubiales’ harassment of kissing a Spanish national team player.
FIFA sentenced the President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales. He may not be active in football for 90 days.
This penalty was the initial sanction for the harassment case that Rubiales carried out against the Spanish national team striker Jenni Hermoso. She kissed Hermoso during the 2023 Women’s World Cup winner’s medal. La Furia Roja succeeded in becoming the best in the event.
FIFA will continue to investigate this case. Further punishment is likely to be obtained by Rubiales.
“The chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Ivan Palacio (Colombia), exercising the authority granted by article 51 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), has today decided to temporarily suspend.” Luis Rubiales from all football-related activities at national and international levels,” said a FIFA statement.
“This sanction, which will take effect today, applies for an initial period of 90 days, pending the disciplinary proceedings that opened against Mr Luis Rubiales on Thursday, 24 August.
Rubiales’ action of kissing Hermoso was harassment because the Pachuca club striker didn’t want it. Hermoso revealed that he was uncomfortable with being kissed by Rubiales but could not avoid it because the 46-year-old man suddenly kissed him.
Rubiales was later criticized by many parties due to this behavior. He has increasingly become a common enemy with the Spanish football public after emphasizing his refusal to resign as President of the RFEF due to his harassment.
Even though the Prime Minister of Spain has also urged Rubiales to step down. However, he remained unmoved.
Spanish female footballers have now also made a real move to denounce Rubiales. They emphasized that they would reject the call for the national team if Rubiales still led the federation.
