The new Club World Cup with 32 teamsscheduled between June and July 2025 in the United States, revolutionizes the transfer market. FIFA, in fact, has decided to add an ad hoc window for the occasion, open to all. This is a short session, from June 1st to 10th. On those days all the clubs in the world will be able not only to conclude negotiations, but above all to deposit contracts. An absolute novelty given that the summer market is currently open from 1 July to 31 August while the winter session, for the major European leagues, runs from 1 January to 3 February.

“According to regulations, FIFA affiliated associations of clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup will have the possibility to open an exceptional registration window from 1 to 10 June 2025 (for all their affiliated clubs) before the start of the competition . The decision whether or not to open an additional window remains at the complete discretion of each FIFA affiliated association,” reads the statement from the world’s top football body. For the definitive green light for the new transfer window, therefore, there will have to be the support of the various national football federations. In the case of Italy there should be the OK from the FIGC. The clubs of the country that votes against on those days will not be able to buy and sell players.

The main objective, of course, is to allow the participants (for Italy there are Inter and Juventus, ed.) to already field new players and to resolve the main controversy linked to the fact that the contracts of some members of the squad will expire in half the competition. In this way, clubs will be able, after the deadline for submitting squad lists, to replace players during a limited period of competition, from 27 June to 3 July. However, the aim is to encourage clubs and players whose contracts are expiring to find an appropriate solution to facilitate player participation.
The summer transfer window could close on August 15th
Also under consideration is the possibility of bringing forward the closing of the summer transfer market, starting from 2025, to August 15th after the protest of many clubs who complained about having to start playing the first official matches of the new season with the transfer market still open.
