Jakarta

Ration Ecuador ke 2022 World Cup sure safe. FIFA has refused to protest Chile who accused La Tricolor of fielding illegal players during qualifying.

Byron Castillo, the player in question, is said to have used a fake passport and birth certificate to defend Ecuador. He is thought to have been born in Colombia in 1995, three years ahead of the Ecuadorian administration.

Chile then lodged a protest in May, asking for Castillo’s matches to be annulled. During the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, he made eight appearances, including two against Chile. Ecuador won once and drew once in those two matches.

If Chile’s appeal is successful, they will be declared victorious twice over Ecuador, moving those who were in seventh place with 19 points, up to fourth with 25 points, ahead of Peru (24).

With the above conditions, Chile can qualify for the 2022 World Cup replacing Ecuador whose points will be deducted. However, after reviewing the existing case, FIFA decided to reject Chile’s protest. Castillo’s document was judged to be valid.

“After analyzing the submissions of all relevant parties and considering all the elements submitted previously, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to close the proceedings initiated against the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF),” FIFA said in a statement on Friday (10/6/2022).

FIFA has reported all the findings to the relevant parties. Chile still has the opportunity to appeal against this result.

Byron Castillo, 23, has played for Barcelona SC in the Ecuadorian League since 2017, and has played nine times for the Ecuadorian national team. He plays as a right back.
