FIFA ratified October and November dates for South American qualifiers

The FIFA ratified this Tuesday the changes in the calendar that includes the start of the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022 with a double date between October 5 and 13, days in which the Chilean team will play against Uruguay, as a visitor, and Colombia, as a local, respectively.

The decision was unanimously approved by the Council Bureau after various modifications had to be made as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the new calendar, in 2020 there will be two days for international matches: the first will be between October 5 and 13, and the other was scheduled for November 9 and 17, which will be used by Conmebol for the first four dates on the road to Qatar.

In 2021, there will be a new double date at the end of March (between 22 and 30) and another between May 31 and June 8, in the preview of the Copa América, to be played between June 11 and July 11 .

Playoffs will continue at the end of August (between September 30 and 7) and then there will be two more days: between October 4 and 12 and November 8 and 16.

These modifications, which affect the international men’s and women’s calendar, “arise from an exhaustive consultation process with football confederations and interest groups, and materialized into concrete proposals from the FIFA and confederations working group on COVID-19, which followed the previously agreed principle of applying a personalized and flexible approach to confederations, reflecting the various situations caused by the pandemic around the world. “
