In the letter, which Fifa sent to the Swedish Football Association, Infantino writes that he is both shocked and sad.
“On behalf of Fifa, and the entire football world, I want to send my deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, to the Swedish Football Association and to football in general in Sweden. We are thinking of the families of the deceased and also those who are injured, and the international football family want to express great sympathy at this difficult time,” writes Infantino, among other things.
The Swedish flag flew at half-mast at Fifa’s headquarters in Zurich during the day.
Two Swedish citizens were shot dead in connection with the suspected terrorist attack in Brussels on Monday evening, just a couple of hours before the European Championship qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden. The match was broken at halftime, at 1–1.
