FIFA presents Intercontinental Cup schedule

The first edition of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup with clubs from around the world will have five games, and Real Madrid, winner of the Champions League, will play the final on December 18 in Doha, the organization reported this Friday.

The tournament, which was announced in December, replaces the annual Club World Cup, as this competition will now be held every four years with 32 teams starting in 2025.

AFC Champions League winners Al Ain will host OFC Champions League winners Auckland City on September 22 in the Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup play-off tie. The winner will face CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly on October 29 in Cairo.

The first two games will be played at the home of the highest ranked team.

The action will then move to Doha, where the Copa Libertadores champion will face Mexican side Pachuca, winners of the Concacaf Champions Cup, on December 11, in a match rated by FIFA as the “Derby of the Americas”.

The winners of these two matches will meet in the Challenger Cup three days later to earn a place in the final of the Intercontinental Cup against Madrid, on December 18, when it will be two years since the World Cup final in Qatar in which Argentina beat France.
