FIFA Plans to Allow Russian Youth Teams to Compete Again, Easing Ban

FIFA intends to allow Russian youth teams, whose participants are no older than 17 years old, to compete. It is also planned to ease the complete ban on the entry of youth teams into the country, which was introduced due to a special operation in Ukraine. Associated Press reported this from its own sources close to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“FIFA’s 37-member governing body (including nine from UEFA) will meet in eight days. It is planned that its participants <…> welcome the return of Russian boys and girls teams to their competitions,” the statement says material. Qualifying groups for the next European Under-17 Championships start this month. Future possible rivals of the Russian national teams, including Poland, Sweden and Switzerland, have already refused to play with the Russians.

Previously FIFA President allowed to participate the Russian national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Also, the President of the Russian Football Union Alexander Dyukov made a proposal for the Russian national team to participate in the 2026 World Cup, reports RT. A ban on the participation of Russian national and club teams in international football competitions was introduced by FIFA and UEFA in February 2022.
