FIFA implements a universal crossed arms gesture that footballers can use in cases of racism

EFE.- The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the incorporation into all the competitions of the universal gesture of crossed arms in the form of a cross, which allows players, referees and technical staff to report any racist attitude in stadiums.

FIFA unanimously approved the implementation of the gesture of racist incidence and will launch it as a protocol against discrimination during the U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Colombia.

The gesture of racist incidents will be implemented in all FIFA competitions and will be part of the three-level procedure.

In the event that any footballer crosses his hands at the wrist, As a sign that they are being subjected to racist insults, the head referee will activate the first level, in which the meeting will be interrupted.

If incidents persist, The match will be temporarily suspended and both the players and the refereeing team will leave the field of play. In case the incident continues during the temporary pause, the match will be permanently suspended.

Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, He declared that “implementing the gesture of racist incident in the U-20 Women’s World Cup “It is a fundamental first step towards empowering footballers around the world.”
