The Polish footballers advanced directly to the finals of the B-branch of the World Cup qualification 2022. The International Football Federation (FIFA) decided on Tuesday night. The Poles were originally supposed to meet the Russians in the semifinals, but they expelled them for invading Ukraine.
The Slovak national team, which finished third in the basic group just behind Russia, also talked about as substitutes in the corridors, but this variant did not occur. The Poles will meet the winner of the Sweden-Czech Republic duel in the finals of the play-off on March 29.
At the same time, FIFA also complied with Ukraine’s request on Tuesday and postponed its A-branch semi-final match against Scotland. The new date of the duel will probably be in June. The draw for the basic groups of the World Cup is scheduled for April 1 in Doha, Qatar. It is certain that not all participants in the tournament will be known at that time.
