The International Football Association (FIFA) backs Uefa in criticism of the new super league. – They must take the consequences, says FIFA chairman Gianni Infantino.
– Fifa can only strongly reject the new super league, which is a closed shop, a breakaway from what we have today – from the leagues, from the leagues, from Uefa and Fifa, says Gianni Infantino during UEFA’s congress in Montreux.
Uefa has threatened to exclude participating clubs from “all other competitions at national, European and world level”. Players also risk being stopped from their national teams and thus, for example, the World Cup and the European Championships.
Something that Fifa seems to stand behind.
– They (the clubs involved) must take the consequences of their choices. They are responsible for them. This means that you are either inside or outside.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin also spoke at the congress, hoping that “the breakaway clubs will make sense, turn around and correct their mistakes”.
– There is still an opportunity to change you, he says.
