FIFA 22 | Market values of stars of FC Bayern Munich illustrate the problem

The football simulation FIFA 22 does not always succeed in projecting reality onto the virtual pitch. The market values of FC Bayern Munich stars reflect this problem.

For many years, fans have criticized the fact that developer EA does not succeed in properly depicting some types of players in FIFA.

For example, Thomas Müller was never one of the most popular cards in Ultimate Team mode, even though the German was an indispensable part of the team during FC Bayern’s treble-winning years.

Football professionals, who in reality are not known for having a particularly high speed, are often given a rather low value in terms of speed in FIFA.

Only three Bayern Munich stars in the top 10

However, since speed is again one of the most important criteria in the game in FIFA 22 when it comes to selecting your own players, virtual professionals suddenly stand out, who in real life are sometimes far removed from performances at the highest international level.

Even in the case of central positions like centre-backs, players often focus on speed. With Maxence Lacroix (Future Stars version), Lucas Hernández (UCL version) and Lukas Klostermann (FUT Fantasy version), three defensive bosses are currently in the top 10 most expensive Bundesliga cards.

In addition to Bayern professional Hernández, only Robert Lewandowski (TOTY version) and Kingsley Coman (Winter Wildcards version) appear in said list. In reality, indispensable regular players like Joshua Kimmich or Thomas Müller don’t even make it into the top 30 in their most popular versions.

Speed is still everything for EA

Although the developer EA announced in the run-up to FIFA 22 that the topic of speed would play a much smaller role than with its predecessors, the purchasing behavior of the players speaks a different language.

In the case of the professionals at FC Bayern Munich, this fact is once again particularly striking. Because a Thomas Müller of all people proves week after week that speed is often not the only decisive criterion on real grass.
