Republican politician Kevin McCarthy was finally elected Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) United States of America. It ended days of bitter Republican wrangling that had left the lower house of Congress at an impasse.

The Republican Party is known to have taken over the House of Representatives in the by-election that took place in November 2022. Republicans won the House by a margin of 222 to 212, while Democrats retained control of the Senate.
However, there was a stalemate in the election of the President of the DPR. US House presidential candidate Kevin McCarthy failed to get the support he needed at the polls after hardline conservative Republicans blocked his election.
McCarthy needs 218 votes to become the new Speaker of the US House of Representatives, replacing Nancy Pelosi who ended her term after Democrats lost control of the US House to Republicans in the by-election of last year.
However, McCarthy failed to garner the necessary support, with 19 “no” votes cast by members of the House of Representatives republican party in the two early votes. The number of votes against him rose to 20 in the three polls that took place on Wednesday (4/1) local time.
