Aps Hadia Tajik and Frps Sylvi Listhaug barked together on Wednesday night in a fierce July 22 duel on NRK.

In a chronicle in Nettavisen earlier on Wednesday, Sylvi Listhaug accused “some” of tanning Frp.

“It seems to be the individual’s goal to brown stain the Progress Party, and portray us as a gang consisting of extreme conspiracy theorists,” writes Listhaug.

She reacted strongly to the fact that Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre and the Labor Party at the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack asked the right to take special responsibility to distance itself from right-wing extremism.

– What is unacceptable is this insinuation that Frp is responsible for this act that was committed in 2011. This is what many feel. That we are a bit pushed out of this community, Listhaug says NRK.

She was strongly opposed by Labor deputy leader Hadia Tajik.

– When terrorist attacks are committed by right-wing extremists that have taken place twice in the last ten years, it is natural to expect that the right-wing party also participates in the debates about this, she says.

– We know that conservative Muslim authorities may have a special role in de-radicalizing Islamists, because they are listened to in a different way in those circles. Then it is natural to expect that authorities on the right can take a similar role. It is not brown staining, says Tajik.

Defender «sneak Islamization»

Listhaug believes Frp is exposed to brown staining and believes it is unfair.

– The first drop came in 2017 when Støre was out and said that one should take up more FRP’s role in this. In 2018, he was out to use it more. We have seen in the last year that there are constantly drips where FRP is dragged into July 22. Not only from the Labor Party, but also from commentators. In the comments section, there are plenty of allegations about this. That is the responsibility we definitely do not take, she says.

– FRP’s role in these years is to be a voice in immigration policy is to address the challenges we face. We have the courage to take on the difficult debates, says Listhaug.

In NRK’s debate, Sylvi Listhaug also defends the use of the word “sneaky Islamization” which was used by the then FRP leader Siv Jensen in the debate on police hijab in 2009 – and rejects that it is a conspiracy theory.

– It is about having special requirements, says Listhaug and shows, among other things, the debate about gender-segregated swimming.

VG has asked Listhaug to elaborate on her comments, but she has not had the opportunity on Wednesday night.

– Established conspiracy theory

Labor deputy leader Hadia Tajik says that sneaky Islamization is a well-known conspiracy theory.

She says she is against gender-segregated swimming lessons.

– When it comes to the concept of sneaky Islamization, it was not the first time I heard the term in 2009 with the debate about police hijab. I saw it in the hate letters I received when I was a young political adviser in the Labor Party. It was about not being able to trust people like me, because Muslims in Norway with public office are really traitors from the inside, says Tajik.

– This is a well-known and established conspiracy theory in right-wing extremist circles. And then the FRP’s leader lifted the concept into the public debate, as if it were a political analysis. Now Listhaug comes up with a new story about what the term is, she says.

Tajik emphasized that the term is heavily established in the far-right circles.

Ask them to take responsibility

She also denied that the party has tried to put the FRP in a box.

– What do you really mean when you say that the FRP and other right-wing parties have a special responsibility to distance themselves from right-wing extremism? Is it really under here that they also have a responsibility for the terrorist acts on July 22?

– No, and I want to be very clear that I do not think it’s okay to put Frp in a box with Breivik. Only one person is responsible for the July 22 terrorist attack. It is the perpetrator himself, says Hadia Tajik to NRK’s host Lilla Sølhusvik.

The party’s deputy leader praised Listhaug for distancing himself from right-wing extremist organizations such as anti-Muslim SIAN and the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement.

– But I would also like her to distance herself even more clearly from the thoughts they bring with them. What we sometimes experience is that Listhaug or representatives from FRP take some of the conspiracy theories in that mindset into the Norwegian political debate, says Tajik.

Conspiracy theories

Tajik highlights Sylvi Listhaug’s Facebook post which led to her resignation as Minister of Justice.

In March 2018, Listhaug posted a picture of terrorists from the Somali al-Shabaab militia with the text: “The Labor Party believes that the rights of terrorists are more important than the security of the nation.”

– The claim is untrue and a conspiracy theory, says Tajik.

– They also stick with shop stewards who ask themselves if it is not time for a new crusade. The crusades are known for massacre and warfare, among other things, she says and then refers to former Minister of Justice Per Willy Amundsen statements.

Hadia Tajik does not want to elaborate on her comments to VG.
