Fierce fire in Harlem building forces evacuation

A four-alarm fire this morning forces the evacuation of residents on the top floor of a six-story apartment building in Harlem.

The incident began around 1:30 a.m. at 617 West 141st Street in Manhattan.

More than 100 firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the blaze.

Residents of the facility were forced to leave their homes by mid-morning due to the emergency.

“We, I was inside the flat, they knocked on my door and they said fire, fire! So I called the people who live in my house and they all came out,” says one resident.

“I thought it was a routine thing, like they always come… but it wasn’t. It looks like a short circuit,” says another local.

According to firefighters, seven civilians and two firefighters sustained minor injuries.

At the moment there are no injuries reported.
