Three of the favorites for the mayor’s chair in the capital staged a fierce debate on the air of BNT this evening. The GERB-SDS candidate Anton Hekimyan, Vasil Terziev of We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria (Save Sofia) and Vanya Grigorova of the BSP argued about the future of Sofia. Together with them in the studio were Deyan Nikolov from “Vazrazhdane” and Violeta Komitova from “Bulgarian Rise”.
“Sofia has many accumulated problems. The northern part of the city should be developed. Limiting the traffic is another task of ours”, began Terziev.
“Rebuilding must be limited in the southern regions. Developing the northern regions is our priority. However, infrastructure is needed and we have provided for it, as well as a connection with the Northern high-speed tangent”, said Anton Hekimyan, quoted by novini.bg.
“These problems have already been foreseen in the capital, so I call on the mayoral candidates to be more open to the voters. Yes, there will be development in the north and restrictions on redevelopment in the southern districts”, Grigorova addressed them.
“Don’t mislead the voters,” she said. A short scandal followed between Vanya Grigorova and Anton Hekimyan.
“A complete rethinking of the Urban Plan of Sofia is necessary. There is money for expanding the subway,” said Terziev. At that moment, Anton Hekimyan asked him why in the Recovery and Sustainability Plan the PP excluded the project for the sewerage in the northern regions. Terziev answered him: “GERB lost more than 200 million”.
“It is really difficult to change the general development plan of Sofia because of the court’s decision, but it is high time that those who have been in charge for 18 years give answers,” urged Grigorova.
“My mayor – your mayor” – this is a principle of your government”, Vasil Terziev addressed Hekimyan.
A verbal firefight continued after a question about where they would run a subway line – to the Simeonovsky lift, or the Iliantsi and Benkovski neighborhoods, if they became mayors.
“We are thinking about expanding in both directions,” announced Hekimyan. “As we are in the role of Santa Claus, it is easy to promise everything, but as mayors we must act carefully with the resources we have,” said Vasil Terziev, without giving a specific answer.
“To run a metro line to the ring road. There is a shuttle to the lift. Yes, we insist on expanding the metro to “Iliyanci” and “Benkovski”. When building a road, one should also think about infrastructure, and not only look at the interests of the rich”, emphasized Vanya Grigorova.
