An alternative to visit this Christmas season is the Plaza de la Libertad, or “Freedom Plaza”, which opened to the public yesterday along more than two hectares in a park in front of the headquarters of The United Nations.
The installation, designed by British artist Bruce Munro, can be seen for twelve months and is made up of more than 18 THOUSAND spheres with low-luminosity fiber optic stems that subtly change color.
Visitors will be able to walk among the lights in an immersive experience that aims to return to New York City the light it lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The work has no other purpose than to be an expression of joy in itself. Life is full of terrible things and I want people to realize that there are also positive things in the world,” he explained to EFE the artist.
In addition, he emphasized that the lights are made of recyclable materials that will be used again in other projects, a gesture that responds to his intention of adapting art to nature.
The artist got the idea to create ‘Field of Light’ on a trip to Australia, where he felt truly alive and connected to the landscape around him, which led him to imagine a field blooming with soft rhythms of light amidst Darkness.
The lights are made of recyclable materials that the author will reuse in other projects.
The immersive experience, sponsored by the Soloviev Foundation and organized together with The Hope Program, has managed to sell all the tickets to visit it between now and February.
