Field fire in Büchold: Threshing work leads to major barley crop destruction worth 5,000 euros

On Saturday afternoon there was a field fire during threshing work in Büchold in the Main-Spessart district.

According to the current state of knowledge, sparks were flying, probably due to a technical defect in the combine harvester’s brake system. Due to the heat and drought, the grain was then set on fire. The fire spread quickly and completely burned three hectares of winter barley.

A large-scale operation by the surrounding fire brigade with 53 emergency services was able to prevent further spread to the surrounding fields.

The damage is estimated at 5,000 euros.
