FIDADOC: The 12th edition will take place online from December 14 to 19

Organized by the Association of Culture and Education through Audiovisual, the 12th edition of the Agadir International Documentary Film Festival (FIDADOC) will take place online from December 14 to 19, 2020, with the support of the Ministry of Communication and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM), civil society of multimedia authors, the French Institute of Morocco (IFM) and International Media Support.

The official selection for this 12th edition is made up of 12 films, 8 feature films and 4 short films representing 16 countries of production. True to its motto “ Cinema everywhere. Cinema for everyone », FIDADOC will therefore offer between 3 and 4 films available free of charge each day on the platform www.fidadoc2020.online. Developed with the same artistic standards as in previous years, the program for this 2020 edition is divided into 5 sections.

Homage to Dalila Ennadre

The first section pays homage to the Franco-Moroccan filmmaker Dalila Ennadre who passed away last May, with a 2005 film, shot just after the adoption of the new Moudawana, and where she travels through Morocco, giving voice to Moroccan women from all walks of life, entitled ” I would like to tell you« .

Made in Agadir

This year ” without big screen »Offers us two films shot in Agadir, the genesis of which is closely linked to the activities of FIDADOC. Two portraits of women with communicative energy who fight daily for the rights and emancipation of women in southern Morocco, explains the organizers of FIDADOC in a press release. This is the film ” Mothers “By Myriam Bakir (2020) and” Dar Taliba » d’Edouard Mills-Affif (2020).

Africa in short

Faithful to its mission of highlighting emerging creation, the only competitive section of this unprecedented edition of FIDADOC brings together 4 short films from 4 countries (Congo DRC, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia) which reveal the mastery and taste for risk young filmmakers, explains the organizers who hope to welcome them very soon to Agadir with their next films.

The four short films are ” Clebs »De Halima Ouardiri (2019),« The Companions of the Cave De Fakhri El Ghezal (2019), Night standing “By Nelson Makongo (2019) and finally” Searching for Ghazala De Bassam Mortada (2019).

Three of heart and exile

Forced to choose from among the dozens of films they have seen and loved to prepare this unprecedented edition, the organizers of FIDADOC have opted for a theme that crosses many other films in this selection, bringing together 3 feature films whose characters are answer, their journeys take turns from Syria to Côte d’Ivoire, from Melilla to Turin and Paris.

Migrants, exiles but above all men with a tremendous hunger for life, he emphasizes. It is ” Barzakh »By Alejandro G. Salgado (2019), from« A Comedian in Syrian Tragedy “By Rami Farah (2019) and” To cross »By Joël Akafou (2020).

Back to present

In this section, and given this period ” which invites reflection“, FIDADOC will offer the public the opportunity to discover or re-watch two films screened and awarded on the occasion of previous editions of FIDADOC, which today seem almost premonitory in view of recent news in their respective countries, say the organizers, namely Algeria and Mali. The two films are ” Bla Cinima “By Lamine Ammar-Khodja (2014) and” The Heirs of the Hill »By Ousmane Samassekou (2016).

« Despite an unprecedented situation that we are all facing and the challenges to be taken up in organizing this edition in an unprecedented format, FIDADOC remains the benchmark Moroccan cinematographic event for creative documentaries through the quality of its programming ” indicates the organizers, who stress that all the selected films have remarkable international careers and that all the non-Moroccan films constitute a Moroccan or even continental first.

This 12th edition also allows the organizers to reaffirm the pan-African vocation of FIDADOC and to strengthen it even further, they specify. They explain that all the selected films were shot in full or in part on the African continent and in the Arab World and that the only competitive section maintained for this edition is that dedicated to African short films whose jury will be made up of young documentarists who will participate in the Pan-African writing residency that we are organizing in parallel with the Festival.

« Thanks to digital tools, FIDADOC will for the first time be accessible online to moviegoers across the African continent. An initiative that will be relayed by the main actors of the documentary community in the Arabic-speaking, English-speaking and French-speaking regions. »Concludes the organizers of FIDADOC.
