The coalition has had a “very bad” coalition council, where Robert Fico had to threaten a vote of confidence in the government. The Prime Minister sent an urgent message to Zuzana Dolinková, he defended Martina Šimkovičová.

The Prime Minister and Chairman of Smer Robert Fico admitted that he was not sure about the approval of the consolidation package in the parliament after the split between Hlas and SNS and after Andrej Danko and Rudolf Huliak were fighting each other.

In STVR’s Saturday Dialogues programme, the prime minister said the coalition council meeting this week was “very serious”. He threatened the coalition partners Hlas and SNS that he would put the vote on the consolidation package together with showing confidence in the government.

“That was just on the table,” Fico said.

Expressing confidence in the government is one of the worst votes. If he did not get at least 76 votes in such a vote, Fico’s fourth government would fall. Then the rebuilding of the government would come into focus, or even early elections could follow.

According to current preference surveys, among the coalition parties, SNS Andrej Danek, who regularly appears below the electoral threshold, would not be sure to stay in parliament.
