Fiber Optic Rollout: KPN Connects 125,000 Households in 6 Months

KPN has rolled out fiber optics to 125,000 households in the past six months. Together with the Glaspoort joint venture, the company has provided nearly 300,000 households with a fiber optic connection. The number of fiber optic subscribers grew by 77,000 households.

Company says now fiber to 4.47 million households. 3.92 million of these are connected by KPN and 400,000 are connected by Glaspoort. The remaining part, 148,000 households, goes through the networks of third parties. KPN wants to have about 80 percent of the Netherlands fiber optic by 2026; the company is now at 53 percent.

KPN’s fixed service revenue fell slightly, by 1.1 percent, to EUR 896 million in the first half of the year. The company says that this is improving, partly due to the roll-out of fiber optics. Turnover from the mobile division increased by 4.3 percent to 395 million euros in the first half of the year. This was mainly due to an increase of 42,000 mobile customers with a subscription. The average amount per mobile subscription also rose by three percent to 17 euros.

The company had a turnover of 2.66 billion euros in the first half of the year, 1.8 percent more than a year earlier. Net profit increased by 13 percent to 412 million euros. “Despite rising costs, mainly driven by wage indexation and higher energy prices, the sustained growth in service revenues, our strong performance and the actions we are taking to reduce costs give us confidence that we can deliver on our full year financial expectations.” says CEO Joost Farweck.
