In some parts of Hamburg, the telephone is still on Wednesday evening, and surfing with the home Internet connection is also flat: Apparently, an important fiber optic cable from Telekom is disrupted. But customers of other providers are also affected.
According to the online portal “alleerrors.de‘ in the early afternoon. Between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., several hundred customers there reported problems with their landline connection. Especially with Telekom nothing worked anymore.
Hamburg: fiber optic cable cut during construction work
The disturbances occurred throughout Hamburg, but especially in parts of Harvestehude, Rotherbaum and Eimsbüttel, reported the “Abendblatt”. A cable route was damaged during work on a large construction site on the premises of the University of Hamburg, a Telekom spokesman told the newspaper.
Three glass fiber bundles were damaged – including the cable route that leads from Hamburg to Rellingen. This cable serves several parts of the city. In addition, ten mobile phone masts were disrupted. According to the spokesman, the incident affects thousands of customers.

But customers of other providers also felt the cable breakdown. On Wednesday afternoon, “Alle disturbances.de” also recorded numerous fault reports from Hamburg for Vodafone, O2, 1&1 and Freenet.
