The prices of building materials, especially iron, have increased significantly during the recent period, exceeding the barrier of 39 thousand pounds per ton for some types, affected by what the current economic crisis left on many prices.
Some merchants began searching for a new way to mitigate the high prices of iron and raw materials involved in the industry, which are entirely imported from abroad, and to meet the needs of the local market.
There has been increasing talk recently about fiber iron, which is considered at least 3 times stronger than reinforced iron, and skewers viber Russian-made armor is 30% cheaper than steel.
And these skewers began to spread widely in some countries, to start relying on them in construction because one of their advantages is also that they are 9 times lighter than iron, and they never rust, and they do not conduct electric current, and they are used for ceilings, columns, large surfaces, ports and anchors.
Features and capabilities of fiber skewers
Although fiber has existed in non-construction works for many years, there was no reliance on it in the construction operations of homes and establishments, but after the global increase in iron prices, it became present in its new form for the first time as a cheaper and more durable alternative to iron.
We monitor for you the most important features of the fiber, which are as follows:
- Fiberglass skewers are environmentally friendly, as they can be restored again and reproduced.
- Skewers work effectively to resist external factors, especially extreme humidity and heat.
- It is characterized by being much lighter than the weight of traditional iron skewers by about 9 times, and its sector is very thin, with a thickness of 6 to 12 mm.
- An ideal replacement for traditional concrete rods such as black rebar as well as epoxy rebar.
- It has a high ability to resist fire as well as resist water leaks, and it also has the ability to completely isolate heat from it, as well as sound and electricity.
- The lifespan of fiberglass skewers is 4 times that of iron skewers.
- These skewers do not allow insects or bacteria to multiply where they are placed.
- Fiberglass skewers can be easily broken when used, as they have a uniform distribution of internal reinforcement in their inner fibers.
- Shear resistance, the modulus of elasticity of fiberglass skewers is low, and they never interact with strong magnetic fields.
- It contributes to giving the building strength and rigidity when the fiberglass particles are combined with the cement particles.
- Fiberglass skewers do not pollute the environment when they are made compared to iron skewers, and they save money because the raw materials involved in their manufacture are low in cost.
Development of fiber steel industries
Ahmed Al-Zaini, head of the General Division for Building Materials at the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, said earlier that the industry should be given attention Fiber iron In Egypt, the interest in its manufacture, to create real competition for reinforcing steel, which lowers prices and pushes the factory to reduce its profit margin, as fiber steel is an alternative to it and is 40% less than it in price.
Al-Zaini added – during his previous media statements, that the fiber steel will contribute significantly to reducing the prices of buildings and housing units, and that the state will use it in mega projects and national projects to reduce costs.
Al-Zaini pointed out that one of its advantages is that it is made according to the need in terms of the size of each building and the specifications that the building needs, and the reinforcing steel is made of steel, while the fiber is made of industrial materials that are determined according to the need and size.
He continued, “The fiber steel is not only used in high towers and concrete works that require 32 mm steel reinforcement, but it can be used in the vast majority of parts of the building and fulfills the same purpose.”
He concluded: “Some Egyptian factories have begun to move towards manufacturing fiber iron and prepare their factories for this modern and important industry.”
Iron prices are stable today, Saturday 4-29-2023, in the Egyptian market, as reinforcing steel is one of the most important components of building materials, and is mainly used in the construction industry. It is also characterized by its strength and durability, which makes it an essential material in the construction of buildings, bridges, tunnels and other engineering facilities.
Today, iron prices in Egypt recorded remarkable stability, and iron prices in factories for agents and distributors range between 32,050 and 38,760 pounds, according to the Arab Iron and Steel Union.
