We are talking about the “extra-large” version of the legendary and iconic first Fiat 500. the 500L could say goodbye to its manufacture, as reported by the unions in Kragujevac, the Stellantis plant where the car is currently produced and which could easily close for about two years pending the arrival – in 2024 – of a new electric car built by Fiat. The “closure” has not been confirmed by Stellantis, but with the passing of the hours and days it seems more and more probable.

The possible end of production of the 500L could affect the fact that it is the only model not to have received the MT 22 update and the 1.5 Hybrid engine. Without forgetting the sales figures which are not in the least encouraging. And so, ten years after its debut in 2012, this car could say goodbye to the automotive market.

The 500L, however, will hardly be replaced. Together with the 500X, however, it would have had a successor model called the 500XL, according to what Olivier Francois – FIAT CEO – said last year. However, we do not know if it is still a hot project at Fiat.

Also because, with the advent of Stellantis, so many things have really changed. In the coming months we will certainly know more, in the meantime, however, the fate of the 500L seems to be sealed. The employees of the factory where it is usually produced have been told that everything will be stopped shortly, and all of them have been offered the opportunity to work temporarily abroad in one of the plants that Stellantis has in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The 500L made its debut on the automotive market in 2012, taking the place of the Fiat idea. Regarding its results, it must be said that initially they were really positive. Over the years, however, the registrations have been reduced, also due to the strong growth of SUVs and therefore the consequent decline in minivan cars.
