Fiat Punto will return in 2022 – Auto World

There are new insistent rumors from Germany about an imminent return to the road of Fiat Punto, one of the most successful models of the Italian brand that from 1993 to 2018 collected over 9 million units sold spread over four generations. The birth of Stellantis would in fact allow to speed up the plans to intensify its presence in the B segment, exploiting the PSA experience and above all the shared CMP architecture on which Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208 have already been born, to name just a few of the models that have come to life on the architecture of the French group. The arrival of the new generation of the Turin subcompact would therefore already be expected by 2022.

The German magazine AutoBild has speculated what the future Fiat Punto could look like, starting from the last Type restyling, in particular with regard to the grille and the optical signature. According to the structure of Stellantis, the Italian brand would be positioned one step lower than Peugeot and Opel, therefore the new Fiat Punto could have a democratic imprint, with simple and economical set-ups at least for what concerns the entry level. The use of the common platform could involve the use of a shared range of engines, with PSA’s three-cylinder diesel and petrol engines that would also be offered on the new generation of the Turin subcompact.

Thanks to the possibility of electrification, there would also be room for an electric Fiat Punto that would take advantage of a powertrain with a total power of 136 HP and a 50 kWh battery pack, guaranteeing an autonomy that should be around 350 km. As for the price, the endothermic versions could already start from 13,000 euros. No production in Italy, however, for the new Punto: according to the plans unveiled by FCA before the formalization of the merger with PSA, the Fiat brand (together with Alfa Romeo and Jeep) will produce a segment B model at the Polish Tychy plant. When Stellantis illustrates the industrial plan in detail, we may know some more details about the new Fiat Punto.
