Fiat: only electric cars by 2030

Fiat is intent on becoming a electric-only brand by 2030. The announcement was made directly by Olivier Francois, CEO of the brand, during an event that took place in streaming in which the cities of the future were discussed together with the architect Stefano Boeri, on the occasion of World Environment Day 2021. For the moment, Olivier Francois has anticipated something this important transformation strategy that will lead the Italian brand to offer only electric cars.

More details will probably come with the presentation of the Stellantis business plan.

The transformation, however, will be gradual. The CEO explains that commitment is to make sure that between 2025 and 2030 the range of cars gradually becomes electric only. The goal, however, is to be able to create sustainable mobility accessible to all.

Our duty is to offer the market, as soon as possible compatibly with the reduction in the cost of batteries, electric cars that do not cost more than combustion cars. We are exploring the territory of sustainable mobility for all, this is our project. Between 2025 and 2030, our product range will gradually become electric only.

According to Olivier Francois, the spread of electric mobility will improve if some barriers are also overcome. For example, to make electric cars more accessible, Fiat will propose new financial products. Another problem is the need to increase the recharge possibilities inside the condominiums by rethinking the condominiums of tomorrow but, above all, by adapting the existing ones. In addition to this, it is necessary to make the recharging points of the city more visible and to increase the fast charging stations.

Today, Fiat proposes only the new 500 electric, a model that is achieving good success in terms of sales and not only in Italy. What will come next? We talk about the production version of the Centoventi concept that was presented during the Geneva Motor Show 2019. However, as mentioned at the beginning, we will have to wait for the presentation of the business plan to know all the details of this strategy. Plan that will be presented between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022.

Therefore, the list of car manufacturers that have already announced the date from which they will focus exclusively on battery-powered models continues to grow. These include, by way of example, MINI and Volvo.
