Fiat Heritage Launches Limited Edition 500 Tributo Trepiuno to Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Trepiuno Concept

For the 20th anniversary of the revolutionary Trepiuno concept, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2004, Fiat Heritage launches a limited edition of 500 Tributo Trepiuno

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Trepiuno concept, presented at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2004, the Stellantis Heritage department created the limited edition 500 Tributo Trepiuno. The car was created on the basis of the current Fiat 500 Hybrid, as part of the Reloaded By Creators project, with targeted interventions on the internal and external equipment, and on colors and materials. The livery of the dedicated white “Trepiuno” bodywork recalls the colors of the concept, as do the white and red-brown shades of the interior. Each example will be an authentic collector’s piece, accompanied by its Certificate of Authenticity.

500 TRIPIUNO TRIBUTE

On 4 March 2004, at a Geneva motor show in great excitement, the Fiat brand presented the Trepiuno concept: a revolutionary concept of urban mobility, conceived by the Advanced Design Studio of the Fiat Style Center directed at the time by Roberto Giolito , which was inspired by the iconic 500 of 1957. The small car wanted to be a sort of “return to the future”, which reinterpreted the Fiat 500 of 1957 in a modern key, anticipating shapes and volumes that, shortly thereafter, would give life to the third generation of the “cinquino”. Twenty years later, the Heritage Stellantis team launches a celebratory model of 500 Tributo Trepiuno, which will be produced, certified and sold directly by the department that protects and preserves the historical heritage of the Italian Stellantis brands. For the development of the car, an integral part of Heritage’s Reloaded by Creators program, we started from the 1957 500, passing through the 2004 Trepiuno concept and the 2007 500, one of the brand’s greatest successes. “The 500 Tributo Trepiuno is our homage to a concept that played a key role in the evolution of Fiat’s contemporary history”, explains Roberto Giolito, then head of the Advanced Design Studio of the Fiat group and currently head of Stellantis Heritage, which includes the Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Abarth brands. “These collector’s items created by the Heritage team bring back, on board a modern 500 Hybrid, the immediacy of that design which was the first Big Bang of the contemporary 500”, added Giolito.

DESIGN AND INTERIORS

The limited edition of 500 Tributo Trepiuno is based on the 500 Hybrid, with targeted interventions on colors and materials, which bring back the suggestions of twenty years ago. The white livery of the bodywork is inspired by that of the 2004 concept, with the rear lights with red inserts, the logos with the writing “Fiat” on a blue background, which are a clear reference to the 1999 logo and the five split-spoke sports wheels . The passenger compartment also takes up the two-tone combination of the original concept and the 20th anniversary embroidered “Trepiuno XX” logo stands out on the seats covered in two-tone white/red-brown full-grain leather. The interior panel coverings also maintain the red-brown colour, which refers to the 360° band of the concept, while on the dashboard the original drawings of the Trepiuno concept, created at the time by Roberto Giolito, are taken up. Each example of Heritage’s new Limited Edition is destined to become a collector’s item, with each car accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Heritage.

CONCEPT FIAT TREPIUNO 2004

The Fiat Trepiuno presented in 2004 was a compact concept car, which anticipated the future stylistic choices of the brand in a very spectacular way, drawing on the past of the Turin company. The project, called “Small and Safe”, aimed to obtain increased safety in a reduced package, taking inspiration from the shapes of the New 500 of 1957. The result was a modern city car, 3.3 meters long, and built on an unprecedented platform that combined high-strength aluminum steels, ensuring a new concept of energy absorption in the event of a crash and reducing the entire volume placed in front of the front wheels. The name Trepiuno came from the versatility of the interior which offered two comfortable seats in the front row, a rear seat, which gained space by moving the front passenger seat forward, plus a fourth emergency seat behind the driver. “At that time, my idea and that of my Advanced Design team was to dry out any form of decoration and bring the essential reading of the 500, essentially linked to overlapping planes like Giacosa’s 500”, explains the head of Stellantis Heritage Roberto Giolito. “So here was a rounded lower body – continues Giolito – and a glass bubble, which left no continuity between the windscreen and the glass or sunroof”. Many details of the ’57 New 500 were revisited in an ultra-modern way, such as the round multifunction front headlights accompanied by two additional taillights acting as direction indicators and the rear lights made with liquid crystal screens.
