After the official presentation of the new Fiat 600e on July 4, Lingoto FIAT announces a hybrid version that will be available from 2024 – the new Fiat 600 Hybrid. FIAT once again confirms the relevance of its solutions: the new 600 will only be electric or electrified, but the hybrid version is intended for those few countries where the transition to electric drive is slower.
Olivier François, CEO of FIAT and Head of Global Marketing at Stellantis, comments: “Our strategic vision remains fully electric, and the 500e, the best-selling battery electric city car in Europe, demonstrates our determination to continue and make electric cars truly accessible to all. However, we want to also maintain its role in countries such as Italy, which is our home market, where the adoption of fully electric cars is slower, so for these individual countries, along with the new fully electric 600e, we will also offer a high-end hybrid model, which will hopefully open the door to a more electrified world.”
The new Fiat 600 Hybrid – technologies
Hybrid is a smart and user-friendly solution that continues to grow in customer demand. Customers will be offered the new 600 in the “P2” hybrid package: with 100 hp and only 110-114 g CO2 emissions (preliminary data before homologation).
The Hybrid power unit will be offered with two trim levels: the Fiat 600 Hybrid La Prima is the most exclusive version, and the Fiat 600 Hybrid is the most affordable.
The MHEV powertrain installed in the new Fiat 600 Hybrid is an outstanding expression of technology and provides exceptional comfort and performance. Thanks to the modern system, the new 600 Hybrid offers a real hybrid experience. The customer can enjoy extremely smooth and electric driving not only in the city, when the speed is less than 30 km/h, but also on suburban roads, when the gas pedal is released during smooth movement or when driving down a hill, and in exactly the same situation on the highway.
The car offers smooth driving thanks to the belt starter, which ensures a quiet and efficient transition between the operation of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor.
The secret of the performance lies in the synergy between the 1.2-liter three-cylinder internal combustion engine capable of providing up to 100 hp, the 48-volt lithium-ion battery and the new 6-speed electric dual-clutch gearbox,
which includes a 21 kW e-motor, inverter and transmission central unit. Such integration ensures an optimally compact design.
The additional electric power improves flexibility at low revs and during launch, giving the driver a quiet start and quick response, as well as a smooth and quick transition between drive modes. In addition, this technology allows energy to be recovered as the vehicle decelerates. Under normal driving conditions, the engine operates to optimize fuel consumption and save up to 15% CO2 compared to a conventional internal combustion engine equipped with an automatic transmission. The economy of the engine is improved by the Miller cycle, but only 110-114 g of CO2 emission makes the new model competitive with other brands.
Driving electric
The hybrid system offers several advantages, including starting trips in 100% electric mode (e-launch): it is smooth, quiet and without gasoline consumption. Also, the electric motor improves the efficiency and dynamics of the car, allowing you to drive with the internal combustion engine turned off in certain situations. This mode is activated when driving in the city at a speed of up to 30 km/h. 1 kilometer of all-electric range is available both in the city and on country roads, with the driver driving at a steady speed and letting off the gas pedal or going down a hill, as well as in exactly the same situation on the motorway. In this way, the balance between power demand and battery charge level can be optimally managed.
Electric mode can also be used for e-creeping, which is used to make a series of short forward movements without pressing the accelerator pedal, for example in traffic (e-queueing). The car can also be parked in 100% electric mode – either in first gear or in reverse (e-Parking). In addition, the hybrid unit is designed to recover energy during deceleration.
The advantages of this technology have an immediate effect: lower consumption and emissions, as well as greater protection for the environment. This is accompanied by less noise pollution and higher comfort thanks to the smooth operation of the electric dual-clutch gearbox and the responsiveness of the hybrid unit.
These features, provided by the new technologies of the new Fiat 600, give an extra boost to everyday life, are easy to use and can meet everyone’s needs in terms of freedom of movement.
