Fiat 500 Electric Transformed into the World’s Smallest Gelateria
The Fiat 500 electric has been transformed into a gelateria, claiming the title of the world’s smallest gelateria. The British division of the Italian brand has unveiled the Fiat 500e Gelateria Edition, a unique version of the 500e Cabrio that will bring gelato to the streets of the country.
Bringing an Italian touch to the traditional ice cream van, the wandering gelateria can serve up to 300 ice creams per day, with 30 liters of gelato stored in double-battery freezers. Unlike the classic ice cream vans of the past, which were highly polluting and often powered by diesel engines, the Fiat 500e Gelateria Edition emits zero emissions. This is particularly important as many urban areas, such as Camden, Greenwich, and Westminster City, have banned ice cream vans with combustion engines. By the end of 2024, there will be 14 cities in the UK with Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ), including all neighborhoods in London starting from August 29th.
Worried about missing out on your gelato? Fear not, as the arrival of the 500e Gelateria Edition is accompanied by Italian opera tunes. And if you prefer to enjoy your ice cream while seated, there’s no problem. Just open the integrated deck chairs in the car.
The 500e Gelateria Edition is a white and blue two-tone vehicle, reminiscent of the Italian style of the 1950s. It is designed without passenger and rear seats to provide more maneuvering space for the gelato maker, who serves customers from the rear of the car. The heat is not an issue either, as the fabric roof can be raised to provide shade for the server and the gelato. Inside the car, also in matching colors, there are freezers and a small cabinet to hold cones, tubs, and spoons.
With the Fiat 500e Gelateria Edition, the joy of gelato and a taste of the dolce vita will be brought to the streets of the UK, combining Italian style and electric mobility in a delicious way.
How does the conversion of the Fiat 500 electric into a gelateria highlight the versatility and adaptability of electric vehicles?
World’s smallest gelateria, offering a unique and sustainable dessert experience on wheels. This innovative conversion highlights the versatility and adaptability of the Fiat 500 electric while providing a delightful treat for gelato enthusiasts.
Created by design and architecture firm BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, the gelateria is a functional and aesthetically pleasing addition to the Fiat 500 electric. The compact size of the vehicle allows it to navigate through city streets with ease, bringing the gelato directly to its customers.
The gelato is made on the spot, ensuring its freshness and quality. The tiny gelateria is equipped with all the necessary equipment, including a refrigerated display cabinet, freezer, and a small preparation counter. This enables the gelato-maker to craft delicious and artisanal gelato flavors right inside the Fiat 500 electric.
Not only does this project provide a unique and delightful experience for gelato enthusiasts, but it also promotes sustainability. The Fiat 500 electric runs purely on electric power, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional gelato trucks. By combining this sustainable vehicle with a gelateria, the project encourages environmentally conscious choices, even in the realm of dessert enjoyment.
The design of the gelateria also stands out as a testament to creativity and innovation. The Fiat 500 electric’s compact size presented a challenge for the designers, but they managed to maximize the limited space available. The sleek and modern interior of the vehicle creates a visually appealing and comfortable environment for both the gelato-maker and customers.
