IT HAPPENED TWENTY YEARS AGO – These days, in 2004, the Geneva Motor Show welcomed the debut of the Fiat Trepiuno. Twenty years later, that delicious concept car, a tribute to the legendary Fiat 500 of the 1950s and muse of the model created in 2007 and still on sale today, is preparing to revive under the wing of the Heritage department of Stellantis with the Fiat 500 Tributo Trepiuno.

SPECIAL PROJECT – The Fiat 500 Tributo Trepiuno will be set up in a limited number of specimens from the team led by Roberto Giolito as part of the “Reloaded by Creators” project, with which the historical department of Stellantis has been giving new life for some years now, bringing them back to their original state or restoring them with unique customizations, to the models that made the history of the Fiat, Lancia, Abarth and Alfa Romeo brands.

QUOTES FROM THE PAST – The mechanical basis of Fiat 500 Tributo Trepiuno is that of the 500 mild hybrid with the 70 HP 1.2 petrol engine, while the bodywork and interiors (yet to be completed, but of which the digital drawings released by the company prefigure the appearance) will make these small cars unique in their kind. There are numerous ideas taken from the Trepiuno concept unveiled twenty years ago, starting from the white livery, in which the characteristic taillights with a hole in the center and the round-shaped Fiat emblem with a blue background stand out which the models of the Turin house between 1999 and 2007.

A SUCCESSFUL IDEA – “My team’s idea was to dry out any form of decoration and bring the essential interpretation of the 500, essentially linked to overlapping planes like the 1957 one designed by Giacosa,” says Giolito, former number one of the Fiat style center And “father” of the modern Fiat 500, about the Trepiuno concept. Just 3.3 meters long, under its rounded shapes with a vintage flavour, that prototype with three seats plus a makeshift one (which, if necessary, “popped up” behind the driver’s seat) hid a cutting-edge chassis, for the category: format made from a mix of aluminum and high-strength steels, it significantly improved impact absorption, reducing accelerations affecting the occupants. A solution that saw the lights on the assembly line with the 500 of 2007, which with all due respect to the many who would have wanted it on the list for a few more years he will retire next July, after more than 3.2 million units sold.
