Prague – The result of the regional and senate elections, according to the Prime Minister and the chairman of the Citizen Democrats, Petr Fiala, reflects reality, for the ODS it is neither a success nor a fatal failure, he told journalists in the election staff. He particularly praised the governors of the South Bohemian and Hradec Králové Regions, Martin Kuba and Martin Červíček (both ODS). He acknowledged that the opposition movement ANO has strengthened, it has more coalition potential than before. But it will depend on further negotiations, he stated. He congratulated his main rival.

“This election, however similar it seems to four years ago, must be a lesson for us. We must be better, stronger and more successful,” Fiala said. Later, he refused to “pour ashes on his head”, saying that he was not running for office. He assumes that the ODS will go to the next elections in the Spolu coalition (ODS, TOP 09 and Lidovci). They will be in a year, and the voters will decide on the new composition of the House of Representatives. According to Fiala, in the last year before the elections, the governing parties must present the results of their work and convince voters that they deserve their trust. “Voters will see how we will do it in our campaign, which actually starts in the next few days,” said the prime minister.
According to him, the Together coalition is a concept for the national level, not the regions. At the press conference, the Prime Minister repeatedly stated that the ODS campaign was not conducted centrally and was conducted in various coalitions. She chose different topics in each region and was able to profile strong personalities. According to Fiala, it turns out that the governors succeeded, who managed well the situations of the last few years and of the last week, when the Czech Republic was hit by heavy rains and then floods.
“We wanted more, I definitely,” Fiala evaluated the results. According to him, there is time to analyze the individual regions. He will do everything to ensure that the ODS and Spolu repeat the success of 2021 in a year. He refused to speculate about possible cooperation with ANO, his goal is not to allow populists to come to power next year.
According to Fiala, the number of successful candidates advancing to the second round of the senate elections corresponds to the previous elections. He urged voters not to forget the second round of elections and to come to the polls.
On Friday, Fiala said that the ODS would like to continue to have at least the same number of governors as before and wants to keep the strongest club in the Senate so that Miloš Vystrčil can continue as the chairman of the upper chamber of the Parliament. Until now, the ODS had three governors, namely Martin Červíček in the Hradec Králové Region, Martin Kuba in the South Bohemian Region and Vítězslav Schrek in Vysočín.
