FIA recommends shorter stages

At the beginning of the month, a basic document had already been published, but some important details were added. The most notable changes relate to the format of the rallies itself.

Thus, the FIA advises that the events should include “Shorter specials repeated more often, longer assistance time to allow measures of social distancing in the service park, or, more strictly, to organize events with a single site instead of competitions multi-site. “

In this updated document, the FIA goes even further, announcing the possibility of ending up in closed enclosures, such as circuits: “Closed sites such as race tracks, private grounds or military zones could give the best possibility of organizing a rally event in a controlled environment. “

On the other hand, only one service park is recommended, while the tire change zones (TFZ) and refueling zones are to be avoided. Drivers having to drive their own car in the parc fermé. Another important point, the time books will be validated electronically and the co-drivers will have to stay in their vehicle to limit physical interactions.

The “Meet The Crews” media point organized on the evening of each WRC stage and bringing together many spectators will logically be completely revised to respect social distancing.

Finally, the FIA has also added a large part concerning the creation and composition of “sub-groups”, composed for example of a crew, their mechanics and supervisory personnel. Each member of this subgroup will be tested at COVID-19, before and after the event.
