FIA single-seater racing director Nicholas Tombasis has clarified the federation’s internal position suspension height adjustment systems Red Bull Racing.
Nicholas Tombasis: “The description of the so-called “open source components” has been uploaded to a portal accessible to the FIA and the teams. We’re talking about components where we don’t want to see competition, but we also don’t want standardization, so that teams can see and study each other’s solutions.
We were told that Red Bull Racing has had this design for several years, and that it is able to change conditions in park mode, which is prohibited.
According to the existing rules, the teams themselves have to convince themselves that they are not going against the rules, and we thought that if this unit is not sealed, we cannot be sure that the suspension height does not change.
We asked for this unit to be sealed, which was done, but it is very difficult to determine what happened to it before. We are unable to investigate the use of this system over the past two years until the matter is referred to the wardens. This requires accurate data, not based on rumors or assumptions.
This node in itself does not violate the rules. In this situation we have to say, “We can’t go into more detail than we already have.”
Can I say with complete confidence that there could be a bankruptcy in this case? No. May I say that this case is closed? Yes, definitely.
I think there is 100 times more discussion on this subject than it deserves, but journalists decide for themselves what they should discuss.”
