Norway can open up when hospitals no longer risk congestion. That’s what Geir Bukholm, director of infection control at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), says.
– We do not think we are there until we have vaccinated down to 45 years. Preliminary estimates show that then we have vaccinated such a large proportion of the population that the risk of us overloading the health service is small, says the director of infection control to Morgenbladet.
FHI estimated earlier this week that most people over the age of 65 would be vaccinated by mid-May, but that was before the news that Norway will receive up to one million fewer vaccine doses from AstraZeneca and before it became known that the Norwegian authorities stops vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine until further notice until Danish reports on possible fatal side effects have been investigated.

According to Bukholm, there are several examples of healthy people under the age of 65 ending up in hospital.
– We see a number of people in the age group 45 to 65 years, where the health service has not found that they have any special predisposition for serious illness, but where some of them will still be able to get a course where they end up in hospital and need intensive treatment, says Bukholm.
On Thursday, it became known that there is broad political agreement in Denmark to remove all coronary restrictions and reopen society as soon as all Danes over the age of 50 have been vaccinated. It was stated in a party leader debate on Danish TV 2 on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the closure in the country.

FHI has none clear estimates for when otherwise healthy Norwegians aged 45 to 64 will be vaccinated. The overview of vaccinations on FHI’s website indicates that it will take place sometime after July. This the overview will be updated on Friday, FHI warns.
There are about 1.1 million inhabitants in this country in the age group 45 to 64 years.
