The Feyenoorders are currently enjoying a well-deserved holiday. Quilindschy Hartman uses his days off to appear as an analyst at the World Darts Championship. Trainer Arne Slot, Thomas van den Belt and Thomas Beelen took the opportunity to participate in a padel tournament in Zwolle.
“When you get older, you are looking for a game that doesn’t require so much running,” says Slot about one of his hobbies. ”And you don’t have to sprint. That is very pleasant for the muscles. And what’s also nice: it clears your head for a while, so you don’t think about football for a while.”
Slot knows how to reach a good level when he is playing padel. “Don’t forget that I played a lot of tennis until I was fourteen, at an acceptable level.” The Feyenoord trainer tries to be on the court at least once every two weeks. “Depending on my program and my fitness.”
Thomas van den Belt
Van den Belt is also present on the court and looks back on his first period at Feyenoord in conversation with De Stentor. The midfielder came over from PEC Zwolle last summer and has to settle for a place on the bench for the time being. ”I took that into account because I didn’t play very much at Feyenoord. It is a big club, with a lot of competition. Many internationals too. But I think I have developed myself very well in the past six months.”
“And then at Celtic Park, in the Champions League, I also gave an assist by not giving an assist,” the attacking midfielder refers to the smart step that allowed Yankuba Minteh to shoot freely. Van den Belt is rarely found on Feyenoord’s padel court. ”That is more for the staff, and don’t forget: the training sessions at Feyenoord are tough. Then you prefer to go home afterwards.” Van den Belt has a contract that runs until mid-2027 and has played thirty minutes in the Eredivisie and 35 in the Champions League.
