At the start of the cup final, Feyenoord still had some difficulty with NEC’s tactics. Feyenoord coach Arne Slot said about this to ESPN: ‘NEC won more duels, we had no rest with the ball. NEC did well, as against all top teams this season. After the break we came out of the dressing room feeling good.’
Loss
The team of NEC coach Rogier Meijer lost. “It’s a shame we can’t crown this fantastic season,” he responded. He also says he still enjoyed the exciting match. He had ‘goosebumps in the cockpit.’
Banners in smoke
There was plenty of singing and cheering in De Kuip, Feyenoord’s stadium. Many people brought large banners, which caught fire due to fireworks. As a result, the match had to be stopped. Slot was not happy with the interruption of the match. ‘We were just enjoying it.’
Future
Slot also keeps his eyes on the national title. “It would be crazy if you weren’t happy with a prize, but the national title remains a bigger prize.” Feyenoord is now in second place in the Eredivisie, the highest football competition in the Netherlands.
