Feyenoord U19 could use a good result in Manchester, as they only had one point in four games in the European youth competition. After only ten minutes of play, however, the Rotterdam side were already behind due to a goal by City player Reigan Heskey.
The rest of the first half saw the game go back and forth, although City had the better chances. As a result the margin was doubled around eight minutes before half-time: a volley in the short corner by Farid Alfa-Ruprecht was too powerful for Feyenoord goalkeeper Tim Haksteeg.
