Feyenoord has a bite: Alireza Jahanbakhsh should make Steven Berghuis, who is leaving for Ajax, forget in De Kuip. The Iranian Eredivisie-top scorer of the 2017/2018 season returns to the Dutch fields after three years.
Jahanbakhsh caused a furore during two seasons of NEC and three seasons of AZ and was brought in by Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018 for almost twenty million euros. His stay with The Seagulls has not been a success, however: in 61 official games, the right winger from Jirandeh has scored four goals and two assists. Although Jahanbakhsh was under contract until 2023, Brighton contributed to a permanent transfer.
After Guus Til, Marcus Holmgren Pedersen and Ofir Marciano, Jahanbakhsh is the fourth Feyenoord newcomer this summer. He signs a contract in De Kuip until mid-2024, with an option for another season. “I can’t wait to get back on the field,” said the 27-year-old attacker on the club site. “During my period at AZ as assistant coach, Arne Slot was one of the people who helped me to become a better player. So when he called and asked if I wanted to come to Feyenoord, I told him I would do everything I could. was going to do to make this transfer. I had no doubts.”
Jahanbakhsh will play with number nine. He will join the Feyenoord selection next week.
