Feyenoord makes a surprising start on Wednesday evening with Bart Nieuwkoop as right winger in the cracker against PSV in the eighth final of the TOTO KNVB Cup. Calvin Stengs and Quilindschy Hartman also have a starting spot. Hirving Lozano starts at PSV.
Right back Nieuwkoop plays instead of right winger Javairô Dilrosun, who could start against Vitesse (1-2) on Sunday. The primary task for Nieuwkoop will be to neutralize PSV right back Sergiño Dest.
Stengs and Hartman are fit enough to start. The former did not come out of the match against Vitesse on Sunday without his armpits and Hartman was injured before half time. The second passed the final tests on race day well.
Feyenoord miss Ayase Ueda, Ramiz Zerrouki, Alireza Jahanbakhsh en Yankuba Minteh door interlandverplichtingen.
PSV is missing Joey Veerman, just like on Sunday against FC Utrecht (1-1). PSV coach Peter Bosz compensated for this absence, just like in Galgenwaard Stadium, by posting Malik Tillman in Veerman’s place. Jerdy Schouten and Guus Til are the other midfielders.
Lozano starts at PSV for the first time since the end of November. The Mexican takes over from Yorbe Vertessen, who is firmly linked to a transfer from PSV to Union Berlin, but is nevertheless part of the selection. ‘Cup goalkeeper’ Joël Drommel is, as expected, PSV’s goalkeeper.
PSV can take record
PSV can obtain a special record on Wednesday evening. The Eindhoven team can remain undefeated in a national competition or tournament for the 41st match in a row. PSV last lost a match in its own country on January 24 last year (against FC Emmen).
Feyenoord, in turn, wants to prevent it from losing at home to PSV for the third time in one season on Wednesday. In August things went wrong in the Johan Cruijff Scale (0-1), after which the Rotterdam team also lost the competition match in December (1-2).
In that match, Ismael Saibari scored the opening goal for the Eindhoven team. The 22-year-old midfielder is missing from De Kuip on Wednesday evening due to international commitments with the national team of Morocco.
Feyenoord against PSV starts on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in De Kuip. The match is officiated by referee Dennis Higler. The winner of the match will play at home against AZ in the quarter-finals of the cup tournament.
