Orkun Kökcü and Feyenoord have agreed on a new contract, the club reports on Friday evening through the official channels. It concerns a commitment for no less than five years, until the summer of 2025. The previous contract of the talented midfielder expired in mid-2023. Kökcü is rewarded by Feyenoord for the strong development he is going through.
News about the contract renewal has not come out of the blue. Both parties have been sitting at the negotiating table for weeks and insured last Thursday Feyenoord Transfer Market that a deal was imminent. Feyenoord made two offers that were not considered good enough by Kökcü, but the gap between supply and demand has now been closed. As a result, Feyenoord will be assured of the services of the creative in the coming years.
Reportedly, the nineteen-year-old youth exponent was in the interest of Arsenal and Seville, but his future lies in De Kuip. The only obstacle was that the Supervisory Board had to authorize the salary increase offered by Feyenoord and that happened. The deal is the second boost in a short time for trainer Dick Advocaat, after the arrival of Mark Diemers from Fortuna Sittard. Kökcü was able to count on a weekly base under Dick Advocaat and thus played an important role in the advance that was initiated under his leadership.
Last season, the youth international of Turkey played in 22 of the 25 league matches. “Orkun has developed very well last season and has made great strides in its still young career,” says technical director Frank Arnesen. “We would like to reward him for that. We are confident that this development will continue in the coming years. Moreover, it is very nice for us that we are able to bind such a talented player to us for longer.”
