The Feyenoord selection was vaccinated against the corona virus on Tuesday afternoon. Almost the entire selection and staff visited the injection site of the GGD. The second shot will follow in a few weeks, as usual.
A number of players had already been vaccinated and were therefore not present in the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam. Leroy Fer was one of the Feyenoord players who was there. The midfielder – like about 1500 others that day – received his first shot. ‘We hope to play in a full Kuip again soon,’ says Fer. “It is therefore good that most people, including us, can now be vaccinated and that the infections are going down.”
Annemiek van der Eijk, who works as a virologist at Feyenoord, is happy that the players have been vaccinated. “We are still in the midst of the pandemic. Fortunately, the number of infections and ICU admissions is going down. At the same time, we also hear the sounds of the Indian variant advancing. To ensure that not too many people get sick, it is important to get vaccinated. I am very proud of our boys for doing this.’
Anyone born before 2002 can now be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Timo Boelsums, infectious disease control doctor and medical manager: ‘It is great that we can vaccinate everyone older than eighteen. That means that members of the Feyenoord selection who are eighteen years and older could also come along.’
