As a Feyenoord player with the most games to his name in the past year and a half, Dávid Hancko is having a wonderful time at Feyenoord. Reason for the club to break open his contract and extend it until 2028.
Hand in Hand, the magazine of FSV De Feijenoorder, interviewed the defensive star between the matches against FC Volendam and Celtic.
Congratulations, you have extended your contract with Feyenoord until mid-2028. Are you happy with that? “I am of course happy that the club came to me and my agent with this request. After that it went very quickly. It feels like appreciation for the year and a half that I have been here. I also see it as a next step and motivation to improve further. A new contract also raises expectations.”
You have been playing at Feyenoord for a year and a half now and have played a huge number of matches. I think you’re having a good time here… “Yes, it’s nice to play so much. Every player has moments in his career when he is injured, but I am proud that I am now healthy and can play a lot and meet the coach’s demands.”
After Bruno Fernandes, you have made the most minutes in all of Europe this year for Feyenoord and Slovakia, did you know that? “It really surprised me! I knew that I played a lot, but I didn’t know that I was second in Europe. I was injured for a while at Sparta Prague, there was nothing I could do about it. But I am grateful to the performance and medical staff at Feyenoord. Some guys sometimes laugh that I lie on the massage table so often, but it really helps me and I can play so much.”
With your performance and extended contract, your market value at Feyenoord has increased enormously. Do you want to stay at Feyenoord or would you ever like to move to another top club? “Some clubs have shown interest and of course I would like to take a step higher one day. But I’m not focusing on that at all right now. I can see it, even if the club comes up with an opportunity. In any case, my agent, the club and I are not involved in it at the moment. If something comes along that is interesting for all parties, we can talk about it, but now everything is mainly focused on being successful with Feyenoord.”
