In recent seasons, the Feyenoord logo on the training clothing line has no longer been embroidered and is in the classic red and white version. This change has also been implemented on the away kit since the 2021/2022 season. In the Feyenoord Supporters Council (FSR), Feyenoord provided text and explanation about the route taken.
The fact that the logo is no longer embroidered is partly because the stitching can be experienced as annoying, the club indicates. Skin irritation on the chest is given as an example. In addition, a printed logo makes a significant difference in costs and in the manufacture of the clothing, when compared to an embroidered emblem, the employees of Feyenoord Merchandise explain.
Mode-item
The fact that the logo is not always in the classic red and white on the clothing has to do with a changing trend and ditto consumer needs. According to club employees, football club clothing is increasingly seen as a daily item to wear and is therefore becoming ‘mainstream’. This fits in with the image that football clothing is shifting from a sports item to a fashion item, a trend that is partly inspired by the influence of social media.
According to Feyenoord, the decision was not made overnight. Initially we waited for the market and looked at the reactions and sales figures at other clubs. Only then was the decision made to use the logo in the same colors as the clothing. The original logo is currently only used on the home shirt.
Sales figures
The decision gives more room to vary the clothing range, the club says. This allows it to reach more supporters. The sales figures indicate that the policy change has worked out well so far. Since the introduction of the ‘colouring’ emblems, the number of items sold has increased.
Feyenoord is aware that some of its supporters would like to see the logo in red and white on clothing at all times. According to the club, it is self-evident that this will be the case on the home shirt. In addition, it is indicated that it is possible that the red-white logo will appear on more lines in the future, if the design allows this.
