Feyenoord made short work of Ajax Amsterdam on Sunday (6-0) during the 29th day of Eredvisie at the Kuip in Rotterdam, for the biggest victory in its history in the Dutch topper. 24 points and four places now separate the two teams in the standings.
Igor Paixao (34th, 66th), Yankuba Minteh (35th, 56th), David Hancko (45th+2) and Quinten Timber (62nd) scored the Rotterdam goals.
On the Ajax side, Mika Godts started in the middle and played 65 minutes, replaced by Silvano Vos. In the standings, Feyenoord is second with 69 points, nine less than leader PSV.
Ajax is sixth with 45 points, 15 points from third place synonymous with the Champions League. After a catastrophic start this season, Ajax fired their sporting director Sven Mislintat in September then their coach Maurice Steijn in October.
His successor John van’t Schip has straightened things out a bit, bringing Ajax back into the top 6, but he confirmed last week that he would step down at the end of the season.
The club also suffers from extra-sporting problems: its general director, suspected of insider trading, is notably suspended.
