Compared to June there is an increase of 10,677 job seekers, but the VDAB sees this trend every year due to the influx of school leavers. Flemish Minister of Work Hilde Crevits (CD&V) says that extra attention should be paid to these young people.

The decline in the number of job seekers is most pronounced among job seekers who have been looking for work for less than a year (-25 percent), while the figures are stagnating for long-term job seekers.

The decline in the number of job seekers can be seen in all Flemish provinces. In Brussels, the situation is less rosy. Figures from the Brussels counterpart of the VDAB – Actiris – indicated that unemployment in the capital rose even further in July compared to last year.
