Fewer trains around Utrecht today due to ProRail staff shortage

The railway company cites the reason that too few employees are available at the traffic control post in Utrecht. “The schedule pressure is so high that a single cancellation can result in us having to make a decision.”

It is not the first time this year that ProRail has canceled rides due to understaffing. Last month, trains were canceled due to sick leave in combination with staff shortages. “We find this very annoying for travelers and carriers”, ProRail writes on its own website website.

The company emphasizes that solutions are being sought for both the short and the longer term. For example, it is being examined whether staff can be moved within the country and recently retired people have been approached to temporarily return to employment. In addition, there are continuous recruitment campaigns for new air traffic controllers.
