3463 new corona cases were reported between Thursday morning and Friday morning. That is almost the same as Wednesday. Then there was a malfunction, which resulted in lower figures. There are currently no indications for this, says the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
Exactly one week ago there were almost 6400 positive tests. The Friday before that, there were more than 11,000 new cases.
Amsterdam
In the past seven days, RIVM registered just over 29,000 positive tests. That equates to an average of 4160 new cases per day. The average falls for the eleventh day in a row.
Amsterdam again had the most new cases. In the capital, 226 residents were told that they had contracted the virus. For Amsterdam, that is the lowest number since July 4. 192 infections were confirmed in Rotterdam and 121 positive tests in The Hague. Almere will follow with 93 new corona cases. Both Utrecht and Tilburg registered 63 positive tests. In eighteen municipalities, no one turned out to have been infected at all.
Deaths
The number of deaths from corona rose by six. It concerns two people from Weesp and also residents of Rotterdam, Voorst, Langedijk and Harlingen. Just because their deaths are now registered doesn’t mean they died from the virus in the past 24 hours. It sometimes takes a while for a death to be registered.
In the past seven days, RIVM received 29 reports of deaths, an average of just over four a day. That is the highest number since mid-June.
Since the start of the outbreak, almost a year and a half ago, 1.86 million people have tested positive. Almost 17,800 people are certain to have died from the virus. The actual numbers are higher.
Hospitals
In the past 24 hours, 88 corona patients have been hospitalized. That is considerably less than the three previous days, when more than a hundred people were hospitalized. Moreover, it is almost equal to the number of new admissions last Friday.
According to Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Network Acute Care, the influx has leveled off in recent days. The occupancy is still rising, but more slowly than before. “We are taking into account a slight further increase in occupancy, we are currently approaching the 700 to 800 patients in hospitals predicted at the beginning of July,” said Kuipers.
Intensive care
Intensive care units have admitted 14 corona patients in the past day. There were 24 on Wednesday and Thursday. In addition, 74 corona patients ended up in a nursing ward, compared to 81 on Thursday, 95 on Wednesday and 100 on Tuesday.
According to figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS), 697 people have been hospitalized in the past seven days because of Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. That equates to an average of just under 100 people per day. That is a fraction higher than the average in the seven days up to and including Thursday. It is the highest level since May 31.
About a week and a half ago, the number of positive tests started to drop. That could mean that around this time, the number of new admissions will start to decline. Prime Minister Mark Rutte expects the pressure on hospitals to stop rising next week.
A total of 651 corona patients are now in hospital. That is three more than on Thursday. Nursing units are treating 475 people, 4 more than the day before. One bed became available in intensive care units. 176 corona patients are now being cared for there.
