Fewer than 150 Covid patients in intensive care, more than…

There are still 340 Covid-19 patients in hospitals (-28 percent), of whom 147 are in intensive care (-29 percent). This is apparent from the corona figures from health institute Sciensano on Tuesday. It has been since the end of September that fewer than 150 patients needed intensive care. The number of new infections and deaths also continues to fall.

The number of new hospital admissions also continues to fall. Between June 22 and 28, an average of 21 people were admitted each day (-33 percent).

Between June 19 and 25, an average of 331 people became infected with the coronavirus every day, a drop of 27 percent compared to a week earlier. A total of 1,083,478 people in our country have already been infected with the virus.

The number of infections is falling in all provinces, except in Luxembourg. The numbers are stable there. However, there are differences in the rate at which the number of infections is falling. In some provinces such as Liège (-47%), Hainaut (-43%) and Namur (-44%) there is still a strong decrease, while in East Flanders (-12%), West Flanders (- 18%) and Antwerp (-22%) is less strong. In the German-speaking Community, the number of infections is rising by 50 percent, but in absolute figures the numbers are very low. Between 19 and 25 June, 12 people became infected there, compared to only 8 a week earlier.

The positivity ratio is still 1.1 percent (-0.5 percent). The largest number of positive tests (1.4 percent) is found in children and teenagers. Less than 1 percent of the tests (0.6 percent) of the over-65s are positive.

The R-value drops by 6 percent, to 0.74. As long as that value is below 1, that means that the pandemic is weakening. A total of 1,083,478 people in our country have already been infected with the virus.

In the same period, an average of 4.4 people died every day from the consequences of a corona infection (-28 percent). That brings the total number of deaths to 25,168.

Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign continues to run smoothly. 7,013,433 people have already received their first injection. That is three quarters of adults or 60.9 percent of the total population. A total of 3,899,422 people have already been fully vaccinated: 42.3 percent of the over 18s or 33.8 percent of all residents.
